Fairfax India Holdings Corporation: Third Quarter Financial Results

Fairfax India Holdings Corporation (TSX:FIH.U) announces net earnings of $66.4 million in the third quarter of 2016 ($0.62 net earnings per basic share) compared to net earnings of $18.3 million in the third quarter of 2015 ($0.17 net earnings per basic share), due to higher net unrealized gains on investments. Book value per basic share of $10.45 at September 30, 2016 increased from $9.50 at December 31, 2015.
Highlights in and subsequent to the third quarter of 2016 included the following:
- On August 26, 2016 the company completed the purchase of 51% of the outstanding shares of Privi Organics Limited for $55.0 million.
- On September 16, 2016 the company entered into a $225.0 million, 2-year secured credit facility with a syndicate of Canadian banks.
- On September 26, 2016 the company completed the second tranche of its investment in Sanmar Chemicals Group by funding $50.0 million.
- At September 30, 2016, common shareholders’ equity was $1,114.8 million or $10.45 per share.
There were 106.7 million weighted average shares outstanding during the third quarters of 2016 and 2015. At September 30, 2016 there were 76,678,879 subordinate voting shares and 30,000,000 multiple voting shares outstanding.
