TORONTO, Oct. 31, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Fairfax India Holdings Corporation (TSX: FIH.U) announces net earnings of $89.2 million in the third quarter of 2019 ($0.58 net earnings per diluted share), compared to net earnings of $94.2 million in the third quarter of 2018 ($0.61 net earnings per diluted share), reflecting decreased net unrealized gains on investments, partially offset by decreased net foreign exchange losses.
Highlights in the third quarter of 2019 included the following:
- Net change in unrealized gains on investments of $118.9 million, principally from an increase in the fair value of the company’s investment in the private company Bangalore International Airport of $188.1 million and an increase in the market price of the company’s investment in the public company IIFL Wealth of $22.7 million, partially offset by a decrease in the market price of the company’s investments in the public companies IIFL Securities of $53.5 million and IIFL Finance of $17.2 million and a decrease in the fair value of the company’s investment in the private company NCML of $18.5 million.

- On September 17, 2019 the company invested an additional $14.0 million (1,002.7 million Indian rupees) in NCML to pre-fund an allotment of compulsorily convertible debentures, which were subsequently issued by NCML to the company on October 1, 2019.

There were 152.6 million and 154.6 million weighted average common shares outstanding during the third quarters of 2019 and 2018 respectively. At September 30, 2019 there were 122,631,481 subordinate voting shares and 30,000,000 multiple voting shares outstanding.
